When installed, maintained, and removed by a certified specialist — no. Hair damage from extensions almost always comes from improper installation, skipped maintenance appointments, or DIY removal. At Fluff, every artist is certified in the methods they perform and we prioritize your hair health alongside your transformation.

Which extension method is best for me?

It depends on your hair type, density, lifestyle, and goals. That’s exactly what your consultation is for — your specialist evaluates everything and recommends the best method. As a general guide: hand-tied for maximum volume, tape-in for fine hair and minimal maintenance, K-tip for long-lasting precision, I-tip for heat-free gentleness, and clip-in for zero commitment.

How long do hair extensions last?

It varies by method. Tape-in hair lasts 6–9 months with re-tabs every 4–6 weeks. Hand-tied weft hair lasts 9–12+ months with move-ups every 8–10 weeks. K-tip fusion wears 3–6 months continuously. I-tip microbead hair is reusable for 9–12 months. Clip-ins last 1–2+ years with proper care.

Can I color, curl, and heat-style my extensions?

Yes — all of our extensions are 100% human Remy hair and can be styled with heat tools just like your natural hair. We recommend using heat protectant spray. For coloring, we strongly recommend having it done professionally at Fluff Colour Salon to protect the extension bonds and ensure beautiful results.

Will coloring my extensions damage them?

Yes — coloring extensions can cause damage.

Hair extensions have already gone through significant processing before they ever reach your stylist. Because of this, additional chemical services must be approached with precision and restraint.

When coloring is performed by an experienced extension specialist, the level of damage can be kept minimal and controlled. Our approach is always strategic. We assess whether toning, glossing, or custom-ordering a more precise shade is the healthier long-term option before proceeding with any chemical adjustment.

Your Hair Strategy Session is just $25 — and that $25 is applied as a credit toward your installation appointment. How long does an extension install take?

It depends on the method. Tape-ins take 1–2 hours. Hand-tied wefts take 3–4 hours. K-tip and I-tip strand-by-strand methods take 3–5 hours. We never rush an install — every strand is placed with intention.

Do I need to do anything before my appointment?

Come with clean, dry, product-free hair. Avoid using heavy conditioners, oils, or styling products on the day of your install. Your specialist will provide any additional prep instructions specific to your method during your consultation.

What’s included in the price?

Your initial extension price typically includes the hair itself, installation, custom color matching, and your first cut and style. Maintenance appointments (move-ups, re-tabs) are priced separately. Your specialist will walk through the full cost breakdown during your consultation.

How often do I need maintenance appointments?

Tape-ins: every 4–6 weeks for re-tabbing. Hand-tied: every 8–10 weeks for move-ups. K-tip: every 3–6 months for removal and reinstall. I-tip: every 6–8 weeks for bead adjustment. Clip-ins: no salon maintenance needed.

What products should I use?

Sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner are essential for all extension types. Avoid heavy oils and silicone-heavy products near bonds, beads, or tape. Your specialist will recommend specific products during your install — we carry extension-safe lines at the studio.

Can I swim with extensions?

Yes, with care. Tie hair back before swimming, rinse immediately after chlorine or saltwater exposure, and apply a leave-in conditioner. Bead-based methods (hand-tied, I-tip) handle water best. Tape-in adhesive can be affected by prolonged water exposure — your specialist will advise based on your method.

Can I remove extensions myself?

We strongly advise against DIY removal for any bonded method. Improper removal is the #1 cause of extension-related hair damage. Your specialist has the right tools and solvents to remove extensions safely and without harming your natural hair. Clip-ins are the exception — they’re designed for daily self-removal.
